Heart of Ukraine

Brian Parks has done college ministry in Dubai for over a decade.  He has planted a church in the central part of the city.

Vinnytsia, Ukraine

Heart of Ukraine - Mark and Laura Bohanan lead a team in the Ukraine that helps those with addictions, the homeless, refugees (war), internally displaced persons (war), pensioners, and the needy (which includes widows, single mothers, large families, etc.), however, due to emergency situations in the past (i.e., Sept 2017 Ammo Depo Explosions) and then the full fledge war in 2022 we have also served the local police, emergency workers, a medical clinic, and a prison. On average we feed approximately 240 portions of food weekly at just our street feeding and in 2020 we surpassed 100,000 meals served

For more information go to: www.heartofukraine.org
Or contact Sandra Brooks sbrooks@lhchurch.com

6/5/25

  • The War – All the first responders who respond to the different bombings. The military and police Chaplains we know that are serving and sharing the Gospel. Ukrainians whose hearts are being called by God to Him. Those of us sharing God’s love and forgiveness in other ways with Ukrainians. Military leaders, that they would seek God and His Will, and political leaders.

  • David’s House Rehab Center - Yura’s spiritual growth as a new Christian and the continued healing of his ankle. Healthy animals so they provide a lot of meat for the center and the soup kitchen. Endurance to work in the gardens and God’s blessing on our harvest.

  • Living Hope Soup Kitchen – Continued wisdom in dealing with the unique characters and situations of our guests. God softening the guest’s hearts towards Him as we share the Gospel. New volunteers as we consider expanding our outreach.

  • Prison Ministry – That Liberty Vn can continue to expand their reach into the prisons, not only for the inmates but staff as well. Our ability to help with food bags or buying other items (recently 3,000 UAH in plastic slippers) for the inmates.  The witness of volunteers as they minister in different situations (funeral of ‘lifer’ inmate, praying for staff).

  • Personally – The family member in California who is in a difficult situation. Laura’s mother (Carol) is in remission and doing well. Laura’s father (Jim) is now in a Memory Care facility, and they are taking great care of him.

  • Short term mission trip – Living Hope’s Greg Ward is there June 29-July 5!

3/2/25

  • Praise for Pastor Sergey’s surgery. This past Monday he went and had the stiches taken out and his surgeon is happy with his progress (tumor and kidney removed). Sergey still must be sedentary for two more weeks, then he will be re-evaluated.

  • Pastor Sergey’s doctors have indicated there are spots on his other kidney and one lung that they are concerned about. An appointment with an Oncology Clinic in Kyiv is being made to further examine the situation.

  • Please continue to pray for Ukraine. We are not even sure what to say about it all (recent political events) and are trying to let our peace and hope be in Christ. Obviously, lots of prayer is needed and trusting in the plan God has for it all.

2/1/25

  • Pastor Sergey, as he prepares for the surgery to remove his right kidney and the tumor on it. And the ensuing influence on his military review for duty. So far, approximately $1,400 of the $1,900-2,500 needed has been raised for his operation.

  • Laura’s trip to Tennessee, Jan 14 – Feb 18 and her mother’s chemotherapy. And, for Mark back in Ukraine handling the ministry.

  • A grant we are applying for that would allow us to bring on paid staff, provide training, and add another day of feeding in our soup kitchen.

  • For our graduated client, Dema, who is struggling to adapt to his new life outside of the rehab center.

  • Wisdom as we consider how to engage our soup kitchen guests more and expose them to Christ’s saving grace through deeper relationships with them.

12/30/24

Please pray for Laura’s mother who has been diagnosed with Acute Leukemia.  Because she is over 70 years old, she will not do the normal aggressive treatment.  Her life expectancy is about 18 months.  Laura will be returning home from January 14 – Feb 18 to be with her family.

9/27/24

We would ask that you pray for:

  •  God's wisdom on us as we make the many decisions for the Soup Kitchen

  • That we can line up the volunteers to give a short Salvation message to our guests before the meals. We've talked with them before and they were agreeable, however, now we are going to be scheduling for specific dates

  • For the hearts of our guests, that the seeds of God's love that have been invested in them will draw them closer to Him, and that many will make a decision to be a follower of Christ

  • The processing of our request for Permanent Residency, and that God would continue to give us favor with Immigration

  • For the scheduling and the operation on our client Yura's ankle, hopefully next week or the following week

9/23/24

Greetings in Christ's name from Ukraine!
We are back in Ukraine after our sabatical, and deep in the trenches of serving others.
We are asking for fervent prayer for our ministry:
* That God gives us favor with the Kyiv organization, who helps non profits serve in Ukraine. We will be asking for their help in buying large appliances, like a stove, fridge, high pressure dish washer, etc. for the new Soup Kitchen. And, for some requestsc we are putting in to churches to help with this.
* That God fills us with His wisdom as we are making many many decisions as we set up the Soup Kitchen.
* Praising God for the warehouse we are renting and that it is so close to where we have been feeding on the streets. It is going to be wonderful to feed under a roof, after 16 years of feeding on the streets. (YouTube tour of the location: https://youtu.be/TWHpdzQM2uQ?si=ExO3nkzE5UBKOEpR)
* For the energy that is needed to do all this additional work, and in a different language and culture. That God helps us endure with patience and good attitudes as we face all the challenges. (Especially the mentality clashes ..... post Soviet and modern American)
* That God would prepare the hearts of our guests, and that they would be open to the spiritual food we will be more obviously giving. That the years of loving and serving them would bring forth a great harvest. That they easily find our new location and enjoy the new space.
*  For favor as we apply for our Permanent Residency. They say we have all the right documents (finally), but it will go to Kyiv, to people who don't know us (the local Immigration officer knows us well, after 17 years). That we are approved under the new law.
*  For our rehab client Yura. The Traumatologist has all Yura's analysis and tests. He will be coordinating with the surgeon regarding Yura's ankle. Hopefully the operation will be soon. For Yura's current level of pain, as his ankle is extremely swollen. That Yura is at peace about the surgery. But most importantly, that Yura sees God's hand in all of this, and that he will finally surrender to Christ.

12/1/23

  • A big praise! Our senior client, Dema, has been with us almost 2 years. A couple of months ago he started a new phase and is now working a job but returning to the center each evening. Tuesday he was notified by his supervisor that they wanted him to go on a business trip with his supervisor and another employee. Dema was really hesitant to go because this routinely leads to drinking and smoking by those going on the trip. He did not want to be tripped up and relapse. At the same time, he was concerned that if he refused to go his employer might refuse to pay him for the month (work he had already done), which is unfortunately common here. We went over some relapse prevention scenarios to help prepare him. He went on the trip and came back victorious!  The two men with him smoked often in the car (both were up front) with the windows cracked. At the work site, out of the 3 workers, 2 were drinking. Despite all this, Dema was able to say "No".  This is a huge first for him and he has been smiling all day, since returning home.

  • Prayer for Yura's eye. He was chopping wood and a piece flew back and hit him in the eye. His hematoma, outer side of his eye, has healed up nice. However, the injury has seemed to affect the cataract in his eye and has made his eye more cloudy. We'll be taking him to a doctor in the next week or so to get an evaluation on it. Yura also continues to struggle to walk on his improperly healed ankle (broke it in 2017) and takes anti-inflammatory medication. Hopefully we can get him in for a surgery to correct the ankle. Yura is coming up on his 1 year with us. Please pray for Yura to accept Christ.

  • Max is progressing in his rehab program, but he continues to stumble on pride, especially when he feels someone is not hearing (agreeing with) his opinion. Max is just reaching his 3-month mark with us and is working on his 12 Steps. Please pray that Max comes to understand that he is saved by 'grace' and not his own works, and that he doesn't have to be perfect.

  • Prayers for Mark and I: our health as we get older; our emotional and metal energy to work with the men; our personal spiritual walks with the Lord.

  • Prayer for safety on the road as the weather continues to be snowy and icy, and it looks to be a hard cold winter.

  • Prayer for the Chaplains in the trenches with the soldiers, as they speak of God's love, forgiveness and salvation. Some Chaplains we know: Anatoliy, Dema, Dema (another one), Stanislov, Marina, Olya, and others.

  • Prayer for the coming outreach to prison staff for Christmas, January 7th. That their hearts remain open to us serving them and sharing the gospel.

  • Prayer for our street feeding program - for peace and cooperative guests. This last Tuesday we had 2 drunk men and a drunk woman attack another man. The young man was shocked and didn't fight back. Since the attackers were drunk, their assault was fairly harmless (swinging in the air), but when they went to attack him again, Mark grabbed one guy and I grabbed the other, and then kept ourselves between the attackers and the victim. Thankfully, the victim ended up with just scuffed knees and palms. The drunk men tried to incite us afterwards and 'save face', but we were both very calm (which spooked them; too calm = more dangerous) and we were not deterred.  For several feedings they will not be feed, so when we arrive next week and refuse to feed them they may get loud and aggressive again; if they cause issues, we will immediately pack up and leave (which we've done on occasion to send a message), and allow 'street justice' to manage the situation (those who don't get fed because of the problem-makers will not be happy and as a group apply some peer pressure), which has worked for us before in situations like this. We are pretty experienced in handling these situations and can hold our own, but we really don't like being pulled into situations like this and we don't like the other guests to feel afraid or unsettled due to situations like this.

  • Light of Life Church will have a few holiday events and we'll be inviting people, so please pray that God goes before us and prepares the hearts of those we will approach. Our church is very warm and is like a big family, and we really enjoy time together.

8/11/23

Prayer Requests

  • For our work and outreaches.

  • For our health, strength and endurance to make it through the harvest.

  • For the hearts of the men we serve at the street feeding, that they would come to trust us and want to come to the rehab center as a way to change their lives.

  • For our wisdom as we deal with the men at David’s House.

  • That we are good stewards of the things that God gives us . . . .donations, crops, equipment, time, etc..

  • For our personal spiritual walks with Christ, as Satan tries to get us distracted in so many ways.

  • For our marriage as being in ministry, especially this ministry, can really wear on us; that we continue to make each other a priority during the day.

Last Reached Initiative / Pure & Simple Devotion

Frankfurt, Germany

Last Reached Initiative - David and Sandra W. lead a team focused on getting the Gospel to every place in the world where there are people left who have never been exposed to Jesus in any way, perhaps never even hearing his name. We are in the process of training and sending scouts who will authenticate these hard-to-reach places, as we prepare to send out teams to share the Good News and start churches among the people there.

Pure & Simple Devotion - David and Sandra W. lead teams who minister to refugees from all over the world. Most of the refugees are Muslims and live in Europe. Their teams make disciples and start churches among the refugees in the camps all over Europe. Some of these refugees are headed back to their countries of origin, though this is often life-threatening, to share God’s love with their families and friends there.

3/26/24

Dear Ministry and Prayer Partners,

Greetings!

The last few days have been tuff for all of us here in Maputo. Homes and cars destroyed. In some cases, literally immersed in waters. We were not an exception. Our Guest House and parts of the main campus buildings were infiltrated by water and time will tell of the necessary cure as the sun arises again.

Our home will need some work done but we are not as bad as I saw some families who were literally displaced and incurring irreparable damage. We are thankful to God who spared us. All our team members with exception of one are working to get back on their feet again. The one colleague had her house flooded.

Pray for us as we navigate the aftermath of the heavy rains, which are still pouring down not as torrentially as they were the night of Saturday and during Sunday. Today, the rain is weaker with some interruptions, helping us to breath again.

With anticipated gratitude for your prayers,

Isaias Uaene, PhD

Director, CDL

8/26/2023 - We, at CDL—Center for Development of Leadership. have much to thank the Lord for as we pursue our mission to equip men and women for the work of ministry. Our first semester went well and we have just started the second semester early this month. God has blessed us with committed students and faithful faculty. We are thankful to contribute to the lives of church communities here in Mozambique as they stand on the first line evangelizing and discipling those who come to know the Lord.

Our challenges include:

1.       Preparation to start an hybrid approach in our teaching endeavors—in person classes and online classes. The real challenge is acquisition of equipment that will help us do well our online classes.

2.       Completion of our infrastructures—We are in the middle of construction that has gone so slow since we have avoided contract debt due to our limited financial ability.

3.       The need for more professors and support staff—Since covid-19, we have lost some support and this dictated downsizing our staff, which makes us work with limitation. We need more Professors to expand our student body. Other areas of need are in administration and academic affairs where we need personnel, but we do not have the ability to hire such human resources.

Our praises:

1.       We praise God for the opportunity to equip our students for a better service in their respective churches as some of them are already serving in the local churches.

2.       We thank the Lord for the committed staff members who give beyond and above their line of duty to get the job done.

3.       We are grateful for the strategic partnerships we have. Our hope is that not only we keep good partnerships, but our constituency may enlarge.

We are grateful before our God for the long-term partnership with Living Hope Church. Your prayers and financial support has been used by God to keep us going. Without it our task would be harder than it is already.

11/1/25

  • Pray for new extension of their “Woven” ministry that helps vulnerable women exit prostitution.  The plan is for this new ministry to be a more encompassing restoration program that will house women and their children, offer life and job skills, professional counseling, access to social workers, spiritual and biblical foundations, and much more.

  • Pray for Hunter and Mary Jane as they and several team members work together to find a property for the facility, create a staff training curriculum, build a network of professional counselors and social workers, build program curriculum and program structure, have an understanding of legal requirements and policies required, and any other requirements needed to see this program established.

  • Pray as they raise $2000 USD in total to cover flights, rental cars, accommodation, and food while meeting with 3 organizations that run similar programs to learn what is required to run the Restoration Program

7/31/25

  1. Continued health over Mary Jane and our baby in the womb. Please pray for strength, energy and a thriving pregnancy! We are having our baby in South Africa and have to start all over with getting baby items. Let us know if this is something you’d like to give towards and bless us with!

  2. That God would continue to give so much breakthrough, and provision for the women we work with. Our organization is financially supporting the women within our restoration program, and our team is believing and trusting God with more financial supporters that want to sow into the ministry we are doing as it continues to grow.

  3. Financial provision for our family. We are needing to increase our monthly income to remain working in South Africa. Please pray God would expand our support team and help Hunter and I with other creative forms of income to support our family. Praise report! We have had so many breakthroughs with selling our house in Tennessee and it should close this week! This has been a massive answer to prayer to be able to sell it. Please pray that all goes well and that our house can officially be sold as soon as possible.

  4. Please pray for spiritual protection over our family and our Woven team as we are coming against very real darkness and strongholds of the enemy. Pray for unity in our team, strategy from heaven, and the perseverance to see it through.

10/7/24

Here are some things we would love prayer for…

  • Please pray we are able to find the right home for our family to live in. We have been staying on base and there are a lot of students that have just arrived. This makes cooking and sharing a kitchen while also keeping an eye on a toddler challenging. We would love to be able to find a place and move as soon as possible!

  • Prayer covering over things we own, especially our house. It has seemed like from the start of this year, one thing after the next has happened with our house in Tennessee which has made things challenging for our renters. We just had the flooring replaced, but we are still having issues in certain areas with the floor buckling. This has been a massive inconvenience and we have had the flooring person out several times and still has not been properly fixed. We also had a major car expense.

  • Prayer for our financial partners. We are needing an additional $400 a month in order to be at our ideal budget for living here in South Africa.

  • Prayer that in the midst of moving to a new country, and all that we have going on, that stress would not be our portion. Pray that we would remain in a place of peace and trust and God’s rest and that His Presence would continue to sustain us in everything we do.

  • Continued prayer over Israel and the surrounding nations

4/24/24

Living Hope Family, it has been nearly three months in our new home in South Africa and now we are on a 3-month outreach to Germany and France—we will have more to share on this in next quarter’s update! Every step of our journey of moving to South Africa was overlayed with testimony after testimony of the Lord’s provision for us. As each piece miraculously came together so quickly, we said goodbye to our friends, family, and the city we have called home for so many years. With our lives packed up in suitcases and bins, we boarded the plane to South Africa to begin our next chapter of ministry here with YWAM. Hunter is now part of the DTS (Discipleship Training School) as he onramps into base staff, and Mary Jane has joined staff, and is helping disciple young women on our DTS outreach team. The heartbeat of this base is to raise up radical evangelists, disciplers, and worshippers. Our DTS and the base staff have been doing weekly outreaches on the streets, in hospitals, in nursing homes, with Muslims near the local Mosque, and with prostitutes and pimps. Since the DTS began mid-January, over a thousand have heard the Gospel and over 450 have responded and given their lives to Jesus. It has been wild to be part of so many coming to know Him! We have also seen so many miracles of healing as we have prayed for the sick. The Lord has healed chronic pains, broken bones, blind eyes, and more! We have seen incredible favor too in ministry. On one of the outreaches, the Lord opened a door for Mary Jane and another student to share the Gospel and personal testimony LIVE on a local secular radio station! The other girl shared her story of Jesus healing her from abuse and her related trauma, and she and Mary Jane boldly challenged the listeners to seek and follow Jesus. What is next? We finish our outreach to Germany in a week and then will fly to France. We will continue ministering alongside local YWAM bases to reach the Europeans and refugees here during DTS outreach before returning to South Africa. We are excited to share the testimonies from this trip in our next update! COMMITTED TO MAKING JESUS KNOWN

Hunter, Mary Jane, and Av

12/6/23:

We have big things coming soon that we would love to share with you all! We have been in a beautiful whirlwind of the Lord speaking clearly to us, and of His confirmation of things to our family, and we are excited to share these things with you! In this season of the Lord speaking, He has hinted at a shift for us since July—when we spent a month in Israel followed by two weeks in South Africa with YWAM. Over and over, we have heard the Lord say, “It’s going to be sooner than you think,” as we talk to Him about moving overseas. Friends of ours from different circles—completely unconnected to each other—began approaching us, telling us they felt the Lord was going to move us “suddenly” and “uncomfortably fast.” These words from the Lord resonated with what we had already been sensing, and they pressed us into the place of prayer. This is when the Lord began speaking clearly to us about a transition, ahead of us.

He was impressing on our hearts that there is a next step to take in our journey to Israel, and from many personal encounters with Him, He made it clear He is calling us to transition to YWAM South Africa. Why South Africa? We have had it in our hearts for many years that the Lord would have us serve both in Israel and in South Africa. As a family, we’ve been moving towards Israel, but then the Lord began to speak to us about SA being both preparation for Israel and a time of great fruitfulness as we co-labor with them in their vision. This YWAM base is contending for revival to be released in South Africa that will spread through all of Africa up into the Middle East. This is the exact word the Lord gave Hunter in 2014 before he even stepped into missions. This is also the same vision that key pastors in Egypt shared with Hunter and our Director, Tod, in 2019. This is also the exact word from the Lord written and posted in the Jerusalem prayer house, Succat Hallel—that revival will come from SA and be released into Israel and the Middle East. Our connection to South Africa goes further as this YWAM base, and this team in SA, are the ones that Mary Jane served with and did her YWAM secondary school alongside. This is also the base where our Director, Tod McDowell, now has one of his sons serving there and also where he taught their staff on Israel. We believe the Lord is calling us to serve this vision unto when He opens the door for us to move to Israel long-term.
With the Lord speaking so much to us and through so many people, we immediately brought all of this to our leadership team at Caleb Global to submit it to them. When we prayed together, they confirmed it resonated with them, and our leadership blessed and released us into this next season. We have been blown away by the Caleb Global team, their championing, and their releasing of us into what the Lord is speaking.

After talking with the base leader in SA, we have been invited to join them for the start of their Discipleship Training School on January 17th and then to join their staff team after. It is an incredibly quick and “uncomfortably fast” transition for our family, but we are so incredibly thrilled for how God will pour out His Spirit in South Africa, Israel, and the Middle East! We are excited to join them in bringing the Gospel to the lost, in discipling and mentoring other missionaries to go, and taking more ministry trips to the Middle East to serve alongside our contacts and Caleb Global.
We want to thank you all for your continued support, prayer, and giving to our family. We truly can’t do this without you. The past 8 years of fruit in ministry have been because of your faithfulness and obedience to the Lord to pray and give. We are overjoyed that the Gospel is being preached, the lost are having tangible encounters with Jesus, the Church is being discipled, Israel and the Middle East are coming to faith, and the Great Commission is being finished! Keep praying!

8/22/2023 - Update

-          In July, we ministered in Israel for over a month while working towards getting our longterm visas for living in Israel. On this ministry trip:

o   We ministered to Muslim men and women from Gaza, where they heard the Gospel for the very first time.

o   We were welcomed to pray for and share Jesus with the sick in the cancer ward of a hospital in Jerusalem.

o   We poured into the Messianic Jewish youth and Muslim-background youth as we helped facilitate two discipleship camps.

o   Throughout our trip, we stopped to share Jesus with those on the street, in taxis, on buses, and anywhere we saw an open door.

-          We wish we had room in this update to share the full testimonies with you, but what we can share is that the Gospel is powerful, Jews and Arabs so open to hearing about Jesus, and He is making Himself known in this land that is less than 1% reached with the Gospel! Let's keep praying for revival!

-          While we have been at our home base here in Nashville, TN, we have:

o   Continued to minister to the Middle Eastern communities here (Jews, Iraqis, Palestinians, Iranians, Kurds, and more)

o   Focused on learning Modern Hebrew

o   Continued working on our pre-launch development through Caleb Global

o   Begun pouring into our students in our Caleb Global School of Revival (Aug-Nov)

-          Prayer Requests - We are believing the Lord for the favor to receive our long-term visas to Israel. This is a very difficult process as the current government is making it even harder to be approved. Please pray with us for breakthrough

  • Pray for continued car donations and funding so that we can meet the ever-growing need in the greater Memphis area

2/19/24

So far this year, we have gifted 2 cars with many more on the docket. We have a pretty big back log of vehicles we are trying to get out as soon as possible, and we are so thankful for the car donations we've gotten recently!

We have been featured by 2 different media outlets just recently! CityCurrent featured us on their show The Spark, featured on WKNO! Additionally, a magazine called Bold Journey featured Midsouth Hope Garage. We are so thankful to be featured and to be able to share our ministry.

Our volunteer day (mechanics only this time please!) is THIS Saturday 2/24 from 8:30-12. We hope you can join us.

We sent out time sensitive invitations, prayer requests and updates to our GroupMe. Would you like to join us? Request to join here.

We do want to thank you all for your support, prayers and love! We would not be able to do what we do without the army of volunteers standing behind us in so many ways.

We are praying fervently for God to provide both monthly donors, and a garage we can begin to repair cars from (we need both to support the effort!) We get messages and emails almost daily asking for car repair help, and we really think this would make an amazing impact for Jesus in our community.

Save the date! We are looking for mechanics for these days, as we have quite a few cars to get ready to go before they can be cleaned!

PRAYER REQUESTS
Our biggest desire would be that you would PRAY for us.

  • Pray for our recipients, that they would see Jesus in their gift of a car. Pray for their car, that it would be a blessing and run well. Pray for the recipient and their family, that this car would be a blessing.

  • Pray for MHG, that God would provide for all of the needs to keep our ministry running.

  • Pray for a new shop for MHG so we can begin to repair vehicles

  • Pray for wisdom in decision making

  • Pray that our partnerships with the city's ministries and nonprofits would be a blessing to the people in our area

We are hoping to gift these to each of our car recipients this coming year! Would you consider purchasing one from our amazon wish list?  We have one more left, and then we are out so we desperately need some more to keep up with our vehicle gifts!

We are starting 2024 out strong with our most recent car gift to a participant with Refugee Memphis. He plans to use the car to work, as well as transport his big family. Please pray for his family!

Car gift #2 of the year was given to a mama who has worked hard to protect her children and build a new life. She as thrilled to recieve this gift, and we were just as thrilled to get to participate in giving it to her!

We are so thankful to be featured on CityCurrent's The Spark, a partnership with WKNO!

11/28/23

PRAYER REQUESTS
As we draw near to the end of 2023, our biggest desire would be that you would PRAY for us.

10/4/2023 - We are wrapping up our third year and are blown away by how God has grown the ministry and used it in the Memphis community to love others. God has blessed us tremendously, and we are on target to meet our goal of gifting 30 cars this year!

Our next volunteer day is Saturday, the 28th. Our goal is to finish all of our 2023 cars by this date to gift in November. We have a referral partner meeting on November 3rd and would love for you to attend if interested. We also are having a fall family night at our shop on November 11th. We will have a chili cook off, bounce houses, hay ride, silent auction, smores and worship around a bonfire. We'd love for you and your family to join us for this night in celebrating how God has provided for us this year.

Thank you for your support and prayers. We couldn't do this without either.

Hope Center Ministries

Piperton, TN

Living Hope and Hope Center Ministries have more than "Hope" in common. We are literally neighbors. The Hope Center is located across the street and just 3 driveways East of us at 600 Keough Drive. Now, what's that Jesus told us to do with our neighbor? Oh yeah, Love him..."Love your neighbor as yourself." Perhaps one of the most recognized passages in Leviticus. Jesus also considered it one of the two 'great' commandments.

The Hope Center's primary goal is to help the men overcome their alcohol and drug addiction by restoring hope, restoring lives, and leading them to realize the love of Jesus. As Christ followers, the men of Living Hope have the privilege and opportunity of mentoring and discipling the men, pointing them to Christ all the while.

The elders of Living Hope have unanimously agreed that serving the men of the Hope Center should be a ministry of emphasis among our body. If you have not plugged in to serve a local ministry, then consider our neighbors at 600 Keough Drive.

"He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."  - Colossians 1:13 &14

GFE Children’s Home

Eldoret, Kenya

Alan and Pam May moved to Kenya to start a home for AIDS orphans and abandoned children on Valentine’s Day 2005 and returned to the US in 2008 leaving the day-to-day running of the home to very capable, indigenous house parents. The Haven began in a rented, single family home in the same neighborhood as a sister children’s home called Fresh Start. In 2008, The Haven and Fresh Start homes merged into the GFE Children’s Home located on a three acre plot in a nearby village, Jua Kali. GFE, Global Field Evangelism, is the umbrella organization in Kenya under which the Haven and Fresh Start were legally established. Over the years, the GFE Children’s Home has housed over 140 children and teens who would otherwise be living in the streets but were given a home with loving, godly parents who have raised these children with gospel intentionality.

Having a building to serve as a kitchen for camp activities was a distant dream. We thought and prayed about it. God never ceases to surprise us. By God's grace and the dedication of several brothers, including some brothers from Memphis, TN, this was accomplished in record time. Three big-hearted men from LHC (Greg Ward, Tom Phillips, and Chester Ervin) in Memphis, sacrificed their vacation time, energy, and financial resources to support this building project.

Although it is still a few things away from completion, we still hope to be able to use it for the next camp for local and neighboring children. This camp where a small church has started is like a light in the darkness. Some people are intrigued and outraged, but others are attracted by the light of the Gospel.  We started almost from scratch, but God made things take shape quickly. Fellowship, prayer and serving together brought us very close to one another and made us feel that we belonged together in the same extended family of Christ.
We want to thank you for all your support and involvement in this work. We have indeed labored with our own hands, but you have fought for us in prayer and you have been involved in support. You and we sowed and watered together, but God made it grow. His name be glorified.

2/1/24

Not long ago this community was known for violence, murder, slavery, and spiritual darkness. It often took several crews of police officers with special car patrols to intervene to stop the violence and all the actions that were happening in this community.  Some time ago a woman from a gangster clan came to the Lord. Her confession and public baptism attracted many local people and a church was born. A month ago we organised an evangelistic event in this locality. When we drove into the village in a minibus full of materials, it still gave us chills as we passed by various houses on a tinny road where groups of people were gathered and watching us. Children started running after the minibus shouting “The repenters have come".

It is a majority Gypsy community where mentality and behavior change slowly. Two brothers have been serving here for a few years and, although people from this community are open to the Gospel, the process of change is held back by their gypsy culture and the specific local environment. However, lives are being changed. These changes are taking place more in the lives of young people and children. These children in the picture are a testimony to other Gypsy children and their families. Although many can’t read, these children do and they read the Bible and attend Bible studies at church. In the end, after we finished the event they came to us and said “Please come again. There are not too many people who come and visit us. Don't forget us!" So, a month ago, just before Christmas, Adina and I organized this evangelistic event with those two brothers and shared the Gospel with them. We had a series of activities, games, and discussions on the birth of the Lord. At the end, we handed out surprises and popcorn to everyone. The room was packed and some sat outside the hall. We pray that the Lord will change the lives of these people and that we will see as many as possible come to the Lord.

In this community - Vârfuri - where we also organized an event last summer, the opposition from the priest was constant. However, the Lord is beginning to change lives and mentalities. If until half a year ago people were suspicious and avoided us, now they are slowly starting to come to the meetings. It is very interesting how this Christmas event has led to the formation of a small Bible study group in this community. This event brought children and parents together and on this occasion, we were able to share the Gospel.

Please don't forget us! Come again!

So, a month ago, just before Christmas, Adina and I organized this evangelistic event with those two brothers and shared the Gospel with them. We had a series of activities, games, and discussions on the birth of the Lord. At the end, we handed out surprises and popcorn to everyone. The room was packed and some sat outside the hall. We pray that the Lord will change the lives of these people and that we will see as many as possible come to the Lord.  God brings people to the light of the Gospel!

A family with big problems started to participate in this group. He being an alcoholic his wife and children, especially the girl suffered a lot.

However, the Lord brought them to this event and since then they have bee not missed any bible group or church meeting. The group is not large, there are about 10 people, half of whom are Christians, but it's a start, given the opposition they face. A dear family with whom we collaborate and organize these events and, in whose lives, we invest are actively involved in people's lives.

It's a new year and a new beginning. Although many changes are happening in the world right now, the most desirable change we are looking for is people's souls. That is why we thank you so much for the part you are taking to make this happen. Only eternity will reveal that many souls who will be in heaven will get there only by God's grace and mercy, grace and mercy that God has brought to them through Jesus Christ and your service.

Thus we appreciate so much your service and involvement without which none of what we do would be possible. We pray for you, your families, and the challenges you are going through and ask God for his grace to be with you every day.

With love în Christ,

 Romica and Adina

9/11/2023 - It has been more than a month since we returned to Romania. We have enjoyed talking, telling stories, and learning how the Lord works in your lives. We have greatly appreciated your openness and your willingness to feel and be with us in the effort to bring the Gospel to the Romanians. Although it has been a busy and quite demanding summer, it has nevertheless been one that has refreshed our hearts to see how the Lord is working. As we told you in our last letter, we were to have a series of meetings, events, and evangelistic projects immediately after our return from the States. God gave us grace and we were able to carry out all these initiatives which we hope by God's grace brought hope to many souls. The first moment was the Mission School for evangelism and discipleship. It was an encouraging and motivating time for the volunteers. They had the opportunity to learn the theory and practice in the daily opportunities they had. The project lasted 5 days, from 31 July to 4 August, and was intense with training every morning followed by practical time in the afternoon. The goal was that through what they were learning they would be able to bring a blessing by serving in their area and investing in other believers. Shortly after we had a training in Fieni city with volunteers from the local church in order to organize the Beyond the Clouds project that was to take place on August 19th. During the project on August 19th many children and parents came. One of the volunteers enthusiastically told how the parents of children who go to the same school as his child were so excited about what they heard and saw.  Basically, beyond the activities, they had the opportunity to hear the Gospel and were challenged to spiritual discussions and follow-up meetings.

We are grateful to the Lord who opens doors and makes His Word penetrate hardened hearts.  We are also grateful to you who are with us in this work of serving our fellow human beings with the Gospel. Your support is essential and without you, these parents and children would have extremely limited chances at the Gospel. Thank you and we appreciate you!

Here is a short video where we tried to capture as many moments as possible from last month, from our different projects. Hope you’ll enjoy it!

Summer Project 2023 - YouTube

7/26/2023 - The journey of our time here in the States came to an end.  We know that summer is a very busy time for all of us and sometimes it is difficult to keep up with our schedules, but we really enjoyed seeing old dear friends and meeting new people.  We wish we could have met and chatted with everyone we know, but we fully understand that sometimes it is a challenge, especially during the summer.  Now we are heading back home where a number of projects and events from the ministry await us.

Dear Strategic Kingdom Partners,

Happy New Year! As we embark on this journey into a new season, I am filled with gratitude for each one of you and the invaluable support you have extended towards our mission work in South Asia. Your prayers, encouragement, and unwavering commitment have been a source of strength and inspiration as we continue to press forward in fulfilling the Great Commission among the least reached regions of the world.

As we reflect on the year gone by, we are reminded of the countless lives that have been touched and transformed through the power of the gospel. Despite the challenges and obstacles we have faced, your steadfast prayers have paved the way for miracles to unfold, hearts to be opened, and communities to be impacted for eternity.

In the midst of uncertainty and turmoil, your love and dedication towards advancing God's kingdom have remained unwavering. Your sacrificial giving and fervent intercession have been instrumental in bringing hope and healing to those who are lost and broken, demonstrating the transformative power of God's love in action.

As we stand on the threshold of a new year, let us renew our commitment to the Great Commission with even greater zeal and determination. Together, we have the privilege and responsibility to shine the light of Christ in the darkest corners of the earth, proclaiming freedom to the captives and release to the prisoners.

In the coming year, may our hearts be united in prayer and purpose as we seek to reach the unreached and disciple the nations. May we be bold and courageous in sharing the hope that lies within us, knowing that God is faithful to fulfill His promises and His purposes will prevail.

Thank you once again for your unwavering partnership in the gospel. May the Lord bless you abundantly and fill your hearts with joy and peace as you continue to serve Him faithfully in the year ahead

With deep gratitude and affection,

- Ravi Landge

  • Pray that God will maximize the impact of our work through the power of the Holy Spirit in the darkest corner of our region through the love & compassion of the local church.

8/2/2023 - I wanted to share an updated vision that we have been undertaking to equip indigenous leaders in the country to plant healthy churches. The vision is to build a training center that will allow us to equip/mentor kingdom workers consistently in good theology. The training center will allow us to board 75 students for short term learning courses and host gatherings of 200 people. Thankfully we were able to get access to good parcel of land near Delhi airport and we’ve contracted Christian architects to begin the design. I am attaching the vision and first survey done by the architects. We would love for you all to pray for this vision to bear much fruit in the future and also consider joining in taking part in adopting part of this project as a church. We are estimating a 3-year timeline for the training center to be built & functional.

Concerned Christians for Afghanistan

CCA hosts an annual conference for only Christians, Afghan and non-Afghan. Our guests reside in the US as well as in many countries around the world. Many Afghan believers who attend have never worshiped in their own language, have never gathered with other believers (especially Afghans), and some have never even seen another Afghan believer before. Our first conference in 2003 hosted about 40 people. In July 2023, there were over 400 in attendance including children. Many of the Afghans who came were refugees who had been in the US for less than 1-2 yrs. At the conference, we have plenary sessions to worship, we open the Word of God and hear a talk related to the conference theme, provide breakout sessions to learn various things related to the Lord and His work among Afghans, fellowship, and end with an Afghan style dance party. We celebrate what God is doing among Afghans.
