Lent is the season between Ash Wednesday (February 17) and Easter (April 4), and is a time to reflect upon the great work of Christ for us at the cross, and to prepare our hearts for the celebration of Easter.
During Lent, many choose to give up certain things such as foods or technology, in order to focus more time and energy toward spiritual discipline and to eliminate some of the distractions in our lives. We would encourage you to pray and ask God to reveal something in your life that you might want to eliminate or change during this season, and then join us each day in prayer and scripture reading. Beginning Monday, February 15, we will be sending out daily emails with scripture readings in the books of Joshua and Mark, and links to devotional material. The daily content is also available here.
One of the reasons that we observe Lent is to join with the church in history, and engage in practices that have been powerful for the people of God through the best and even the worst of times. Especially in light of the heaviness we have all felt in the last year, we invite you to join us in some of these disciplines. We are praying that God will use this Lenten season to truly renew our hope and bring us the joy of resurrection and new life that is only found in Jesus Christ.
