Small Group Connection-A Personal Account
Cathy and I went to Small Group Connection as a last minute decision (and Cathy decided for me). We had been attending Living Hope for only a few months and we (she) thought it would be a good way to get plugged in. One of the things that stood out most at the Connection was how well organized it was. As with anything new, you’re a bit anxious, but Bill Christian’s relaxed nature and sense of humor put us at ease from the start. Plus, hearing other people’s life stories and spiritual journeys kept us interested and engaged, and before we knew it, it was time to choose a small group for ourselves after the 2 Sundays of meeting the leaders of the groups being offered.
Through the Connection we met Jim and Janice Michaels’ and chose their small group. As couples, we shared a common experience, in that we both have/had a special needs child. That is a connection on a very personal level. And that’s what happens in the small group community – you connect on a very personal level. It’s a place where you can say what’s on your mind and on your heart. It feels safe and trustworthy. That doesn’t happen immediately but by spending time together over meals, prayer, Bible study, and life experiences you become like family. We’ve laughed together, cried together, attended parent’s funerals, prayed for each other, our friends, and our families. We’ve shared hurts and fears, successes and failures. We’ve had lighthearted, fun times and deep, spiritual study and discussions. Three years ago we didn’t know the 10 other people in our small group, but today we have lifelong friends. Now’s your chance to experience many of the same things we found in a small group. There are new small groups forming, starting with the Connection on September 18th and 25th. In fact, Cathy and I have been challenged to step out and start a small group, and we are doing so with the help of our friends Mike and Terri Fountain from our current group. We look forward to developing new relationships, growing spiritually, helping make disciples, and reaching out in love and the name of Jesus to our neighborhoods and community. And, if our new small group could birth new small groups in a couple of years, that would be even better. We are grateful for what God has done and anticipate the great things He will do.Many thanks to Jim and Janice for their love and support.

Building Gospel-Centered Relationships
How do you build relationships that lead to talking about your faith? This 2-week workshop will provide Biblical tools and motivation for loving our neighbors and sharing the Good News. Louisiana Flood Relief Trip
Living Hope is putting together a team to help with flood relief efforts in Baton Rouge, LA. We will be mudding out flooded houses so that people can begin rebuilding their homes and their lives. The dates are Friday, September 30th through Monday, October 3rd. We will be staying at and working with Istrouma Baptist Church. Contact Greg Jackson to express interest or ask questions (firstname.lastname@example.org); we need to know by tomorrow afternoon if you’re interested.
Neighborhood Christian Center
Please grab a flyer at the Mission Workshop to discover upcoming ways that you, your family, and Small Group can help blaze the trail for the Neighborhood Christian Center to come to the South Collierville area. NCC provides youth programs, adult classes, Bible studies, community engagement activities, and compassionate services to neighborhoods throughout the Memphis area. Opportunities to help now include building relationships through a Mobile Food Pantry and a Fall Festival coming in October. Contact Brandon Brown (email@example.com) to get involved.
Discover Living Hope
Have you been attending Living Hope but would like to know more about who we are, what we believe, how to join a Small Group, serve, or become a member? Then join us October 23 during the 9am or 10:45am hours for Discover Living Hope. It’s a casual setting where you can meet new people and ask questions of Living Hope pastors and elders. If you choose to pursue membership at Living Hope, this is also a required step in that process.
Becoming a Member of Living Hope
Along with attending a Discover Living Hope class, our membership process includes completing three classes (Gospel, Community, and Mission) either online or “live” during the 9am or 10:45am hours. We prefer that people attend these informative Sunday classes where you can interact with new people and ask questions of Living Hope pastors and elders. The next “live” classes begin Sunday, October 30. You can begin the online process anytime by visitinglhchurch.com and clicking on the “Online Membership” link on the home page.
